Ales Stenar – Ale’s Stones

Ales Stenar - Ale´s Stones

Ales Stones (Ales Stenar in Swedish) at Kåseberga.
With carbon-14 dates ranging from 3500 BCE to 600 CE, it is safe to presume that this has been very a important location throughout the ages. The filled in pits from a 5.500 year old neolithic dolmen has been found just outside the stone-ship´s circumference, and it seems that some of the larger boulders in the monument originate from this much older structure as these reused boulders exhibit typical dolmen cup and ring marks.

Some controversy exists between the scientific establishment and amateur “archeoastronomers” as to what its intended use was, a burial site or a solar calendar as theorized by the latter.
